Choose retractable when you want the view back some of the time or the space is seasonal, since the screen rolls away into its housing. Choose fixed when you are hiding one permanent sightline, such as a neighbour's window or a bin area, where you will never want the view. Retractable screens cost more up front; fixed options such as metal privacy screens have no motor to service.

Should a patio privacy screen be dark or light?
