The Basics

What Are Roll-Up Security Shutters?

A roll-up security shutter is a curtain of interlocking aluminium slats that travels vertically in guide rails fixed either side of an opening and rolls into a housing above it. Each slat is extruded aluminium with an insulating foam core, so a closed shutter puts a physical barrier across the opening and blocks light. Operation is either manual, by crank, or motorised from a remote or a wall switch.

Around Barrie the opening is often not on the house at all. Boathouses on Kempenfelt Bay and the lakes nearby, cabanas and gazebos by the water, and cottage-style garages and seasonal storage all need a closure that rolls up out of the way while the property is in use and closes the opening when it is quiet. In the city itself, the Bayfield Street and south-end commercial strips add storefronts and restaurants to the mix. Size, slat profile and finish are specified per opening rather than bought off a shelf, which is why every quote starts with a measure. More detail on roll-up shutters.

In Barrie we most often quote boathouse doors, cabana shutters, patio screens and waterfront enclosures. In town, the commercial corridor along Bayfield Street and the south end also brings storefront and restaurant shutter work.
Yes. Barrie and Simcoe projects often involve boathouses, seasonal structures and open patios where the framing is not standard and exact measurement matters. Every system is made to the measured opening, and we check what the housing and guides will mount to before anything is ordered.
Yes. Barrie is part of our regular service area and we also work across Simcoe County, including Innisfil, Orillia and the Highway 400 corridor.
Yes. Boathouse doors are among the projects we quote most often around Barrie. Every boathouse is framed differently, so we measure the opening on site, check the clearances and the structure the guides will fix to, and have an aluminium roll-up door with a powder-coat finish made to suit. See boathouse doors for how the system fits.
Yes. We fit solid storefront shutters where a unit closes down completely and side-folding grilles where the display needs to stay visible after hours. Most retail units need landlord or property manager sign-off first, so we plan access and timing into the quote.
Window shutters typically run $800 to $1,500 per window and roll-up garage doors $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the size of the opening, the slat profile, manual or motorized operation, and the mounting conditions. Boathouse and cabana openings vary too much in size and framing to range in advance, so they are priced individually after a free onsite measure.
